Curated by Connie Petrillo, The Real and the Remembered is more than just a chronological survey of Marcus Beilby’s work—it’s the realisation of an artist’s patient faith in his own vision, and an exploration of one of art’s most enduring mysteries: how we transform experience into memory, and memory back into experience. After years of working quietly, believing that something meaningful would emerge when the body of work was complete, Marcus has given us this remarkable collection that exists in that liminal space between what we see and what we remember seeing.
Each painting in this exhibition is a small act of preservation, a way of holding time still.
