Matthew Hunt is a contemporary installation artist whose work regularly chalBackwater is part of a new program of biennial exhibitions for the Holmes à Court Collection supporting contemporary Western Australian artists. Hunt’s work is wide ranging, often incorporating installation, sculpture, video, photography and drawing. He conceives his practice as a series of ongoing experiments that explore an interesting mix of personal experience, history, memory, myth, psychology, performance and documentary. This culminates into a series of questions for the viewer to negotiate and can often create a dense and tangled set of relations. Hunt suggests these reveal the hidden, the unknown, the lost and the wonderful. Featuring installation, video and photography Hunt will also launch a major publication exploring his practice, with essays from John Barrett-Lennard, Robert Cook and Sabine Schaschl.
This project has been generously supported by ARTSWA and the Australia Council for the Arts.
