Landscape in Australian art has been a continuing pre-occupation with artists, from early settlement to the present day. Artists who brought their European traditions, initially struggled to come to terms with the harsh light and spare landforms of the land.
This exhibition looks at the concept of passages and journeys (actual or in metaphor) that lead the viewer through the picture plane as a device bridging various periods of the Australian landscape genre.
