SUMMARY:TIME to BURN @ Vasse Felix
DESCRIPTION:Time to Burn\, an exhibition bringing together artists responding to urgent environmental concerns surrounding contemporary forest management. \n\n\n\nCurated by Christine Gregory\, Time to Burn examines current fire management practices\, with a focus on aerial prescribed burning in Western Australia’s Great Southern and South West regions. \n\n\n\nThrough artistic and community perspectives\, the exhibition explores the environmental\, cultural\, and ecological consequences of these methods. \n\n\n\n“The Southwest forests are a biodiversity hotspot\, with many unique plants and animals existing nowhere else on Earth\, yet they are under threat from many angles including inappropriate fire management. The WA Government should take inspiration from these artists\, and be creative\, considered and informed in re envisioning fire management in the Southwest to protect both nature and communities.” Jess Boyce\, Director Western Australian Forrest Alliance (WAFA) https://wafa.org.au/about-us/ \n\n\n\nThe exhibition aims to provoke informed dialogue and encourage alternative approaches to fire management\, highlighting the irreversible damage caused by prevailing practices. Time to Burn asks a vital question: how can we protect both our communities and the natural environment—before time runs out? \n\n\n\nThe exhibition features Western Australian artists Kate Campbell-Pope\, Annette Davis\, Elizabeth Edmonds\, Peter Hill\, Sandra Hill\, Paul Moncrieff\, Kim Perrier\, Ben Pushman\, Tania Spencer\, Monique Tippett\, Peter Usher\, and Tony Windberg. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is part of the South West Biennial 2026 run by Bunbury Regional Art Gallery. \n\n\n\nTo be officially opened by JANET HOLMES à COURT AC \n\n\n\n11.00 am | Sunday\, 12th April 2026 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nClick HERE to Register for Official Opening\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOnly light refreshments will be served during the formal opening in the Gallery. \n\n\n\nTo book for lunch separately\, contact  Vasse Felix :  P.  9756 5050 or email  restaurant@vassefelix.com.au \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nImage credit: Peter Hill\, New Day\, 2024\, oil paint on burnt Marri timber

SUMMARY:OPENING: Drift Woods | Elmari Steyn @ Vasse Felix
DESCRIPTION:Drift Woods is a solo exhibition by Elmari Steyn featuring a considered selection of recent art works. Steyn’s unique-state etching prints take the viewer into a wandering\, many-pathed narrative journey; into exquisitely detailed worlds of wonder\, sadness and delight. Drawing on her background in Namibia\, Steyn folds personal stories into the familiar subject matter of trees and boats\, often pictured in unison. Trees and boats become places of mystery that compel the imagination. They hold memories and emotions. Tree houses and boat houses feature as evocative of the idea of home\, as well as holding a sense of child-like wonder and playfulness. Throughout the works there is a frisson between transience and stasis\, between putting down roots and taking to the skies or seas. Drift Woods\, enables you to consider these states of stillness and movement as you enter and drift through entrancing realms of the imagination.  \n\n\n\nTo be officially opened by JANET HOLMES à COURT AC  \n\n\n\n11.00 am | Sunday\, 26 January 2025  \n\n\n\nOnly light refreshments will be served during the formal opening in the Gallery.  \n\n\n\nTo book for lunch separately\, contact Vasse Felix : P. 9756 5050 or email restaurant@vassefelix.com.au

SUMMARY:ARTIST IN RESIDENCE // Angela Stewart
DESCRIPTION:Angela Stewart is a member of the ArtCollective WA and her work is currently on show in the exhibition TEN. She will be in residence in the Holmes à Court Gallery @ Vasse Felix from the 14th November to the 2nd December (excluding the 23rd –28th November). \n\n\n\nStewart has been interested in portraiture for the last three decades. Her drawing\, painting and paint/ed photography often make stylistic and thematic reference to the Italian Renaissance historical portraits and the transition of the fresco to easel painting. By studying the work of Sixteenth century Italian painter Sofonisba Anguissola\, Stewart became fascinated by the complexity and etiquette of painting by a woman of this age. Her desire was to roll back the veneer of the finished artwork and to imagine signs of hesitation and mistakes to unlace the becoming of a portrait. This notion of ‘artistic doubt’ has since had an influence on Stewart’s more recent oeuvre. \n\n\n\nOver time\, the rendering of her line and brushwork has dissolved to increasingly reveal materiality and process. With oval and circular frames\, she examines traditional elements such as the cameo or motifs of flora and fauna in landscape and from costumes in portraits.
