twentyFIVE+ Crossover
ABOUT
twentyFIVE + Crossover marks both an anniversary and a watershed moment for the WA Fibre and Textile Association (WAFTA). Founded in 1995, WAFTA is Western Australia’s premier textile organisation – an umbrella membership group that encompasses the widest range of textile and fibre artists. To celebrate, a juried exhibition is taking place.
For this exhibition the artists worked according to two criteria – use no more than three textile techniques and challenge the use of materials and techniques of traditional fibre and textiles. Altogether 42 artworks have been selected by a jury whose focus was on placing textiles firmly in the contemporary art arena. For the first time, three monetary prizes will be awarded in the ‘Professional’, ‘Maker’ and ‘Student’ categories.

Monique Tippett, Burnt - exhibition view, 2022
Monique Tippett / BURNT
ABOUT
Burnt is open and looking spectacular. Monique Tippett has outdone herself, creating works full of meaning, power and beauty
Burnt responds to the element of fire which is wielded by Tippett as a creative force. Fire is used for artworks that reside somewhere between sculpture and painting, as three-dimensional wall works.
Burnt is a solo exhibition that brings together large and small, new and old works, that glow from gold to red and from the deepest darkest charred wood to snowy ash.
There are still some artworks available for purchase.

Acquisitions
Jill Churnside, Washing Day, 2018
This work was acquired form the Tracks We Share exhibition at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
““I’ve painted, desecrated I guess, over the Australian flag, a stolen generation story. We can’t paint pretty pictures all the time and sometimes that’s easy to do, sometimes I think I’’ll just go and paint my flowers today, I can’t do that painting that’s waiting in the corner, that’s important, that’s got somebody’s pain in, but I have to finish it, sooner or later….” Jill Chunside
