Monique Tippett, Burnt - exhibition view, 2022

Monique Tippett  /  BURNT

ABOUT

Burnt is on at Vasse Felix throughout December and January. See below for Monique Tippett residency details.

Burnt responds to the element of fire which is wielded by Tippett as a creative force. Fire is used for artworks that reside somewhere between sculpture and painting, as three-dimensional wall works.

Burnt brings together large and small, new and old works, that glow from gold to red and from the deepest darkest charred wood, to snowy ash.

There are still some artworks available for purchase.

Collection Focus

Abstract Art by Women in the 1980s

ABOUT

This exhibition is the second instalment of the Collection Focus series of annual exhibitions drawn exclusively from the Janet Holmes à Court Collection. Here we present art works which have rarely been on display. The selection of artworks reveals the substantial contribution that women artists have made to the field of abstract art in Australia. Women artists have played a fundamental role in the development of abstract art throughout the 20thcentury. It is a role that has often been overlooked in favour of the celebrated work of their male contemporaries. The specific period of focus for this exhibition is the 1980s and the works span across painting, collage, ceramics and sculpture, to celebrate and acknowledge the crucial significance of abstract art by women in Australia in the 1980s

ABOUT

Emergences is part of the state-wide Open Borders Project. It includes 15 unique, interconnected, exhibitions, films and performances created by artists living across regional WA.

Each of us has a complex network of physical and psychological barricades in our lives. These can be environmental, imposed on us or self-erected. What happens when a barricade falls or is breached? Some may find euphoria in such a collapse. For others, the tension this creates can be crippling.

Presented by The Creative Corner and the Holmes à Court Gallery @ Vasse Felix, Emergences has been coordinated by Christopher Young and Anita Pettit.

ARTISTS

Amanda Bell, Clocherty/Deltondo/Hart/Jennings, Shannon Clohessy, Francesco Geronazzo, Shayne Hadley, Yu-Hua Lan, Elisa Markes-Young, Katharina Meister, Kate Alida Mullen, Martine Perret and Helen Seiver.

Book Launch

Philippa O'Brien, No Stone without a Name

Friday 25th November, 6-8pm

No Stone without a Name is visual history of possession and dispossession in Australia's west.

Philippa O'Brien tells the story of the Swan River Colony with beautiful and largely unknown illustrations. This book reveals the shadow presence of an alternative story - the drama of possession and dispossession, and the relentless brutality of Colonialism. This timely publication resonates with contemporary ideas, questioning our physical, psychological and spiritual relationships with this land and its people.

Please join us for the official launch event, and to purchase your signed copy of this important publication.

RSVP to Gemma Ben-Ary : gbenary@ellenbrookarts.com.au

If you cannot attend the launch but would like to order a copy of the book, email Gemma Ben-Ary - gbenary@ellenbrookarts.com.au.
Book cost : $89.95 + P&H

This book launch will be accompanied by an exhibition of art works featured in the book from the Janet Holmes à Court Collection in conversation with photographic works by Philippa O'Brien.
