Extraction
Extraction is a group exhibition focused on the extractive industry in all of its forms (from mining and drilling to the reckless exploitation of water, soil, trees, marine life, and other natural resources). It is connected to a broader global project to expose and interrogate extraction’s negative social and environmental consequences, from the damage done to people, especially indigenous and disenfranchised communities, to ravaged landscapes and poisoned water to climate change and its many troubling implications. ABOUT:
Orison
an archaic word
meaning prayer
a mystical communion
Of late I have found myself fighting for the forest, against mining, exploitation and greed. I have become part of a group of forest dwellers who want to protect what remains. Who want to show the true value of this place and it is of vital importance to the world we see coming.
Each of the works is a small devotion, an offering
a whispered prayer for its protection.

Pickle District // After Dark
ABOUT
The Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10 is part of the Pickle District - a burgeoning arts hub in West Perth nestled between the city, Leederville and Northbridge.
On the 7th April the Holmes à Court Gallery, Stala Contemporary, Vox Lab and Linton and Kay all opened their doors alongside laneways for light installation by Sohan Ariel Hayes and an after party at Soggy Bones. We celebrated the Pickle District After Dark through art, performance, installation, projection, food and music. It was an inspiring and exciting launch with John Carey kicking off the night at the Holmes à Court Galleryand Michelle Smith on Harp and Alex on Drums. See the pics below and don't miss out on the next Pickle event.
The Australian Baroque
On Sunday 9th of April The Australian Baroque performed Cakes and Corelli at the Holmes à Court Gallery no. 10 exploring the new found genre of gastromusicology. A sumptuous selection of sweet treats were paired with even more sumptuous sounds from the 17th and 18th century played by a very talented ensemble of musicians.
Acquisitions
Queenie McKenzie Nakarra, Jesus Story, 1995
This recently acquired work was collected (by the original owner) on a field trip to the Kimberley in 1995. It was commissioned from the artist and painted at the pensioner’s unit where Queenie resided and purchased directly from the artist at Warmun, Turkey Creek. There is text from Queenie McKenzie on the back of the painting:
“Rain coming wet season
Jesus in the basket with Mr Jobst looking
Mr Jobst the Archbishop from Broome.
All them ladies looking at Jesus sitting down and two men with the bible book.
They kill him that God Jesus man
Two Romans hit him on the back
Going up the hill.”
