LAST CHANCE!!

This Saturday 14th March is your last chance to catch the FIBRE exhibition.

FIBRE is an unwrapping, unrolling and unfolding of fibre artworks from the Janet Holmes à Court Collection together with works from invited artists.

FIBRE features stitched, threaded, strung, rubbed, ripped, folded and pressed Fibre art. From luminous to opaque, delicate to robust, the works speak of processes of material manipulation and ritualistic gestures of repetitive stitching and rubbing. Everyday clothing is stitched and sculpted anew; blankets are stacked, stitched and printed upon, forms of nature are enveloped; objects are crafted of fibrous textures of bark and grasses; human hair is shaped and strung together and; native flora and fauna are pictured and sculpted of or on fibres, or have fibres running through the paper or canvas on which they are pictured.

LESLEY MEANEY Becoming Australian

This exhibition opened to an excellent speech by Professor Bill Castledene followed by some poignant insights from Lesley Meaney on her work. The colours and textures of the works are well suited to the environment surrounding Vasse Felix.

The exhibition is a sensorial experience of fiery sunburnt colours, deep earthy tones and slivers of green. The works evoke a sense of place and belonging, as a sustained, experimental and unique response to the Australian landscape. For Lesley Meaney, each new body of work is another journey, another discovery, another set of artistic challenges to resolve along the way towards becoming Australian.

This solo exhibition has works for sale, please see the price list here. It also features an ambitious book of Lesley Meaney's workLesley Meaney Becoming Australian an Artist's Journey. All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to support a brighter future for children with brain cancer.

Trevor Richards, Through and Under, 2018
Concrete E X P A N D E D is reimagined for the Holmes à Court Gallery @ no. 10 showing most of the works that were in the original exhibition at the Holmes à Court Gallery @ Vasse Felix and supplementing these with a new site specific work by Jennifer Cochrane and new works from Joshua Webb.

Concrete E X P A N D E D considers the affects of colour, design, pattern and shape through works of geometric abstraction. It takes part in a conversation about an ongoing artistic concern with Minimalist and Concrete Art in the new millennium. It playfully suggests an expansion of the genre of Concrete Art that initially had a vibrant local explosion on the streets of Fremantle in the early 2000’s.

Included are both works from the Janet Holmes à Court Collection and works from invited artists available for purchase.

Other News
Rhonda Sharpe, Owl, 2019

Recently acquired for the Janet Holmes à Court Collection is this gem of a piece. Owl is a soft sculpture by Rhonda Sharpe who works with the Yarrenyty Arltere art centre. It is crafted from recycled wooden blankets that are dyed with local flora and rusted metal. Sharpe creates a range of different characters that draw from her life experiences living in Alice Springs - including birds, humans and extraterrestrial creatures.

Rebecca Dagnall, Paradise #6, 2015

Rebecca Dagnall generously donated this piece to the Janet Holmes à Court Collection and we are thrilled to accept it. The work is part of Dagnall's Paradise in Suburbia series and as she writes - "The work is a window into a psychological space where our experience and memory play a large part  in how we perceive our surroundings." The work overlaps in the centre and from that space strange creatures appear to emerge, giving the overall composition an unsettling quality.
