DATES:
27th March - 1st May 2021
ABOUT:
George Haynes is a well-established and highly influential Western Australian artist. His artwork aspires to the quality of music and delights in smouldering sunsets, light dappled hills, soft pastel tones swallowed by intense hues and a grip on realism veering towards abstraction.
George Haynes has an exquisite mastery of technical challenges in painting. He demonstrates a fine grasp of colour knowledge and perspective theory. He often draws directly from nature, closely observing the nuances of nature and the physical world.
George Haynes 2020-21 presents a stunning selection of mostly recent works, created throughout 2020 and 2021.
George Haynes is a member of the Art Collective WA

George Haynes, At the End of the Day, 2020
Holmes à Court Gallery @ Vasse Felix
Intimacy is now open. It is an exhibition about intimacy and its antithesis. It offers a look at the past through the lens of the present and in particular the collective state that overcame humanity throughout 2020. With attention to the joys of proximity with others and the pain of separation, Intimacy pictures scenes of decadent celebration, nights at the theatre and groups of people clustered at the beach. These are in contrast to scenes of isolation, convalescence, despair and emptiness. Intimacy acts as a reminder of the value of others; of caring and celebration; of the potential of a joie de vivre in a world in which intimacy is so easily endangered.

Acquisitions
Erin Coates, Whale Fall, 2020
This work was acquired from our Perth Festival Exhibition, Reflection Submersion. Using the intricate, ancient technique of scrimshaw, Erin Coates has drawn onto a whale tooth. The drawing features the phenomenon of whale fall when a whale's body falls to the bottom of the ocean and becomes an ecosystem.
We were delighted to test the acoustic capabilities of no.10 by hosting the performance ‘Kalyakoorl Ngalak Warangka’ by Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse. Gina's vocals resonated beautifully throughout the space and Guy's spirited guitar playing warmed the room.
Thank you to everyone who made it to the Water Matters talks. We are now full bottle on the science of climate change when it comes to our oceans and the critical role they play in our survival. Thank you also to the speakers for their contributions - Paul Gamblin, Gary Kendrick, Marji Puotinen, Angela Rossen and Vanessa Russ.
