Flying Circus / Tony Jones An enduring love of a life on the Swan river
Flying Circus is a solo exhibition by renowned Western Australian artist Tony Jones. The gallery will be transformed by sailing vessels dynamically floating through the space, accompanied by compelling installations, sculptures and wall works. Jones explores the dovetailing of art and boating, expressing a love of sailing craft, life on the river and considering the remnants of a past culture of interactions with the river over generations.

Collection Focus / Indigenous Art
ABOUT
Since the early 1980’s, Janet Holmes à Court has been an avid collector of the art of the First Nations people of Australia. Collection Focus / Indigenous Art marks the first of a series of annual exhibitions focusing on specific aspects of the Janet Holmes à Court Collection. This year’s focus is First Nations art acquired over the last five years, representing seven language groups and fourteen artists. The works are derived from such regions as the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (aka APY), Martu, Kimberley, Roebourne, Warburton, Irruntju, Noongar and Yuendumu lands. The exhibition attests to an ongoing and wide-spanning interest in collecting indigenous art as the pre-eminent contemporary art of Australia
This year the Mandorla Art Award will be held at the Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10. The 2022 theme is:
Metamorphosis – a profound or radical change
Reference: “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19)
In our pandemic world people have been forced to change their behaviour, work habits, eating habits, socialising rituals, and many other aspects of life. In our contemporary world, environmental changes affect oceans, land and humankind. Artists can help us to understand the depth of these changes and open us up to new ways of seeing what is possible, what is abhorrent, what is virtuous, what is needed.
The Mandorla Art Award for 2022 has chosen Metamorphosis as its theme so we can continue to develop our understanding of what these radical changes mean to us today.
The Mandorla Art Award is Australia's most significant thematic Christian art prize.
There is a $25,000 major acquisitive St John of God Health Care Prize, plus $17,000 in non-acquisitive prizes, open to artists across Australia.

Unique States
ABOUT
Unique States considers different states and the many meanings of the idea of the ‘unique state’. It refers to a print making technique, to states of being, societal and environmental states and to our geographical state. The past three years have launched humanity into ‘unique states’ and Western Australia has become even more of a ‘unique state’ because of its position apart from the rest of Australia and the world. Unique States presents political and environmental realities, as much as flights of fancy, taking viewers through a variety of unique states via the medium of print.

Acquisitions
These two works, Captain's Hat and Booka, by Wadandi/Minang/Koreng Bibbulmun artist Lea Taylor, were recently acquired from the Strangers on the Shore exhibition. They respond to the idea of strangers coming to the shore and profoundly disturbing life on country as it was previously known.
Other News
Our Perth Festival exhibition Strangers on the Shore concluded with a series of artist's talks and a clarinet performance of the song Strangers on the Shore by Ashley Smith.
Anna Nazzari, Cherish Marrington, Jo Darbyshire, Kelsey Ashe and Lea Taylor all spoke eloquently about their work and offered some fascinating insights into the history and research that went into making them. See the images below.
