Manning Clark House 2018 Day of Ideas
Renovation of a Nation


This Day of Ideas will address the history of our nation, address the past in order to create a better future, not only for our ourselves but for generations to come. It will focus on the Uluru Statement from the Heart as a way to move forward, as a design for our renovation.

Harold Vike, Spirit of the Man at Vasse Felix

Holmes à Court Gallery at Vasse Felix winery features the exhibition Harold Vike, Spirit of the ManThe opening on Sun 14th October was populated by a knowledgeable crowd entertained by a troup of swing dancers. This exhibition features Vike's life and work through a considered selection of artworks spanning a prolific career and lifelong dedication to art. 

Exhibition runs until the 3rd February 2019.
Australiyaniality at Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10
On the night of the 2nd November Australiyaniality opened to a bustling crowd. Welcome to country was given by James Webb, followed by a song by the Panic's singer Jae Laffer, a theatrical performance by Peter Docker and Geoff Kelso, Yothu Yindi's Treaty sung by Flooded Palace and a spoken word poem performed by Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa. Australiyaniality is an ambitious and relevant project, the beginning of an artist movement for change. It is creating a platform for the conversations that need to be had to make our country a better place, a place that delivers well-being of mind, body and spirit to all Australians.

3 November     9.30 – 12.00  Speakers morning : Elders and Artists 

Yawuru elders Jimmy Edgar and Susie Gilbert, with Rosemary Coffin, spoke about the meaning of Liyan and their role in the project. We did a walkabout of the exhibition with individual artists talking about their works. Artists included - Matt McVeigh, Curtis Taylor, Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa,  Roly Skender, Mei Saraswati, Minaxi May, Wes Maselli, Michael Torres, Jason Wing, Kam Bin Salleh, Jacob Lehrer and Martine Perret. Morning facilitated by Sharon Tassicker.

 

10 November   9.30 – 12.00  Speakers morning : Art and Appropriation 

This discussion considered the ongoing relevance of appropriation, questions of authority, agency, ownership and permissions in the dialogue of indigenous art and in the intersections between indigenous and non-indigenous art. Speakers included Louise Morrison, Glenn Iseger-Pilkington, Sharon Egan, Curtis Taylor, Matthew McVeigh, Kam Bin Sallen and Dunja Rmandic.

 
Backlot film program
On the 3, 4, 10 & 11 November an Australiyaniality film program developed by the Revelation International Film Festival was screened at the Backlot Cinema. This program featured some of the best and most challenging Australian works in produced in recent years. See here

You are invited to STYLEAID ZERO ART –a celebration of World AIDS Day and STYLEAID re-created. 

Experience a night of art, design, performance and fashion, with a very special runway show, featuring a one-off capsule collection from designer Neil Sheriff at Hoodedwept. Tickets are limited to this launch event of the two year STYLEAID collaboration, between the WA AIDS Council and the City of Vincent, in the West End Arts Precinct.
