Holmes à Court Gallery @ no.10
DATES:
27th March - 1st May 2021
ABOUT:
George Haynes is a well-established and highly influential Western Australian artist. His artwork aspires to the quality of music and delights in smouldering sunsets, light dappled hills, soft pastel tones swallowed by intense hues and a grip on realism veering towards abstraction.
George Haynes has an exquisite mastery of technical challenges in painting. He demonstrates a fine grasp of colour knowledge and perspective theory. He often draws directly from nature, closely observing the nuances of nature and the physical world.
George Haynes 2020-21 presents a stunning selection of mostly recent works, created throughout 2020 and 2021.

Holmes à Court Gallery @ Vasse Felix
Intimacy is now open. It is an exhibition about intimacy and its antithesis. It offers a look at the past through the lens of the present and in particular the collective state that overcame humanity throughout 2020. With attention to the joys of proximity with others and the pain of separation, Intimacy pictures scenes of decadent celebration, nights at the theatre and groups of people clustered at the beach. These are in contrast to scenes of isolation, convalescence, despair and emptiness. Intimacy acts as a reminder of the value of others; of caring and celebration; of the potential of a joie de vivre in a world in which intimacy is so easily endangered.

Momento of Clarity

ABOUT
My working title Momento of Clarity comes from the often-used phrase Moment of Clarity and the word Memento.
The works in the series Momento of Clarity act as an unsettling, humorous metaphor for the confusion and dilemmas of current times and reflect a post truth world. They present an emotional and social landscape of our contemporary lives. Elusive and emotive, the images straddle abstraction and figuration, echoing the advents of communications and rationales rising and reforming only to collide and slump chaotically around us. Michelle Lewis is a painter from the APY Lands who paints a place called Makiri east of Ernabella near the Fregon community. This painting was recently acquired for the Janet Holmes à Court Collection from Artitja. It depicts a honey ant dreaming. Michelle states;
"I am painting the landscape from above, as you might see it from an airplane or as a bird looking down. It is beautiful country both from on the ground and up above"
