JWR LINTON   1869  - 1947

Linton played a vital role in the development of art in Western Australia. Born in London, he arrived in Australia in 1896 to look after the family interests at Miners Dream Gold Mine near Kalgoorlie. After contracting typhoid the following year, Linton convalesced in Perth, and from then on devoted his life to art. Linton's fine watercolours were matched by his skilled and versatile craft work. He exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in London, 1890 - 93, and contributed to the exhibition 150 Years of Australian Art at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1937. The Art Gallery of WA held an exhibition of his work in 1977.
