Ian FAIRWEATHER   1891  - 1974

Ian Fairweather’s paintings are expressive of the exotic influences of ancient Chinese paintings and his time spent in the islands of the Pacific where he became intimately familiar with nuances of that culture and lifestyle. In later life he moved to Bribie Island where he assimilated the art of the Aboriginal people, in part due to a shared way of life, but mainly in terms of his understanding of rhythms, colour modulations and the iconography that he used in his paintings.

A fine line begins and firms, round the corners of forms, disappearing, reappearing, edging a shape, crowning a discovery, blazing it’s own trail, but bent like steel and flesh, fashioned out of a curving hand.
