The Holmes à Court Gallery is very proud and excited to be bringing MICRO MACRO CITY to Perth. This is the Australian Pavilion exhibition from the 2006 Venice Biennale of Architecture, featuring the work of 12 Australian architects and 9 Australian artists. *
Incorporating architectural drawings, photographs and models alongside specially commissioned artworks, including large-scale photographs, painting, video and aural environment, visitors will find themselves immersed in a range of experiences.
“Micro Macro City presents eight highly specific portraits of Australian urban conditions that together form a cumulative and comparative representation of everyday Australian metropolitan life: Shrinkage, Expansion, Interface, Overlap, Absorption, Exchange, Re-use and Over-supply. In parallel, twelve architectural projects are presented that demonstrate a relationship to the issues raised by each urban condition” Curators, Shane Murray and Nigel Bertram.
Curators Shane Murray and Nigel Bertram will be giving a free public talk in the gallery on Saturday 21 July at 4pm.
Over the course of the exhibition the gallery will be hosting six Wednesday Winter Salons where a light dinner of pasta and wine will be offered followed by a guest speaker. Speakers include Gary Marinko and Simon Anderson, two Western Australian architects featured in the exhibition, and Dawn Casey, former Director of the National Museum of Australia and current CEO of the Western Australian Museum.
