A painter and teacher, David Rankin has held over 70 exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and New York since 1968. His early paintings dealt mainly with technological innovation and its application to observed natural phenomena. Landscape has always been a focal element of his work. His 1980’s abstract works are distinctive for their use of strong brush strokes, swirling, dribbled paints and earthy colours. Rankin’s work has appeared in numerous group exhibitions in public and private galleries and in several art fairs in Australia and the US. In 1989 he and his family moved to New York where he regularly exhibits, continuing also to exhibit in Australia.
